Even though pyrite is commonly considered as fool’s gold, there are two more minerals that bear the term – chalcopyrite and biotite. Both chalcopyrite and biotite are also often mistaken for gold. Biotite, in particular, can have small weathered flakes with a yellow hue, resembling gold. These flakes possess the typical lustre that biotite possesses, further adding to the confusion. However, it is important to note that despite their gold-like appearance, these minerals lack the true value and properties of genuine gold. Therefore, caution must be exercised when identifying and distinguishing between these minerals and actual gold.
